I have some news for you, so get ready...
Tomorrow,
September 18th..
is the LAST day of the market this season!
Say, WHAT?! :O
Tomorrow, September 18th is the last day of the market this season!!!
Yes, we were set to go until October 16th. But, that date was an estimate set long before today.
(Sometimes, it is just not worth it for everyone involved to work so hard every week, with limited resources and a lack of produce left to sell into October. And that is okay!!!)
I know it is sad, but let's look at the bright side!
WE have had an amazing, wonderful impact this summer in the Rockwood neighborhood!
a BIG shout out and thank you goes to:
So... How do we move forward?
This is a question that has endless answers that are different for everyone. I would like to pass on this question to YOU for you to think about, ponder, contemplate and GET creative!
Place-making movements like Farmer's Markets, take an overwhelming amount of participation from the community to stay engaged, get involved and make things happen. You cannot sit and wait for someone else to take action. We MUST continue to collaborate and communicate our hopes and desires for the market with each other.
As much as I care, and would like to give you everything you want and need all by myself with no help at all... (HA!), we are better together.
Let me repeat that:
WE
ARE
BETTER
TOGETHER!
But... what do we do now you ask?
I would like to encourage you to email [email protected] with your contact information and simply let us know that you would like to help take responsibility for what is to come next for the market! Let us know how you would like to get involved!
Taking an even bigger step forward, I would encourage you all to join our Steering Committee! Ideally, we will meet once a month, at least 5 months up until the next market season starts (Either in 2017 or 2018). Please message us with days and times each month that would work best for you to meet. Most likely, we would meet on a Saturday afternoon each month at the Rockwood Library! Even if you can't show up to every meeting, your voice and opinion matters!
****Here is where planning for the next market can get really fun! Comment below some of your favorite memories/activities/aspects about the market in 2016 that you would like to experience again. Also, post about some not so favorite things and ideas on how we can improve the market in an effective way!
I look forward to keeping the local food justice movement in Rockwood alive together!
As a community, we are better together.
Peace and love,
Jennifer Petrie
